Crypto paper trading: practice with simulated money
By CoinArena 3 min read Free guide
Crypto paper trading lets you record simulated purchases and sales without placing real exchange orders. CoinArena Pro starts a paper portfolio with $10,000 in simulated cash and includes a decision journal. It is a way to examine your reasoning and review outcomes without committing trading capital.
What is simulated in CoinArena?
The cash balance, positions, and trades belong to a simulation. Buying an asset in the paper workspace does not buy cryptocurrency, send funds to an exchange, or create a withdrawable balance.
You choose the asset and enter a manual buy or sell. CoinArena uses an available market price and applies its simulation assumptions. The portfolio shows your remaining paper cash, positions, and activity.
Make each practice decision reviewable
A simulated result is easier to learn from when you record your reasoning before you see the outcome. A winning practice trade does not, by itself, prove that the original reasoning was sound.
Write the reason
Use the thesis field to describe what you noticed and what evidence would weaken that interpretation.
Choose a time horizon
Record whether you are examining an intraday, swing, position, or open-ended idea. Keep that context when reviewing the result.
Inspect the order preview
Check the asset, amount, simulated execution price, and costs before confirming. Paper orders still use the workspace’s balance and position limits.
Review the activity
Compare what happened with what you expected. Ask which observations were useful, which were missing, and whether you changed the original explanation afterward.
A simulation cannot reproduce every market condition
CoinArena currently models a 0.10% fee and 0.05% slippage per trade. These are fixed practice assumptions, not quotes from an exchange. A current price must be available for an order to be placed.
Actual execution can differ because of spreads, liquidity, delays, changing fees, and partial fills. Paper trading also does not reproduce the experience of risking real money. A profitable simulated portfolio does not establish that the same decisions would be profitable in a live account.
Use the journal to study your process. Avoid treating simulated returns as a forecast or comparing a short run of results with a guaranteed outcome.
How to access the paper workspace
Sign in to an account with active CoinArena Pro access and open the paper-trading workspace. The tool includes manual purchases and sales, positions, activity, and a portfolio reset. Resetting clears the existing paper positions and journal, so review them first.
Paper trading does not require a deposit of trading funds, but Pro is a paid subscription. Check the pricing page for current terms before subscribing. If you are still exploring CoinArena, the public lesson preview and this blog are free to read.
Common questions
Is CoinArena paper trading free?
The article is free to read. The paper-trading workspace requires active Pro access. The simulated cash balance is included in the simulation and has no monetary value.
Does a paper trade execute on an exchange?
No. CoinArena records a simulated order in your paper portfolio. It does not submit a real exchange order or hold cryptocurrency for that position.
Can I keep notes about a practice trade?
Yes. You can enter a thesis and time horizon with an order, then revisit the decision in the activity journal.
